Join us on for a screening of “A Dangerous Idea” followed by a discussion of the film. Though America was built on the idea that “all men are created equal”, a dangerous idea has emerged throughout the 20th century that uses false science to conclude that there exists an all-powerful “gene” that predetermines superiority and that proves that all men are not created equal. It is the belief that through biology one can determine which races and individuals are inherently superior and more deserving of basic rights and was used to justify disenfranchising minorities throughout history. “A Dangerous Idea” featuring interviews with social thinkers and prominent scientists reassessing the meaning of, use and misuse of gene science. The film spotlights how false scientific claims have once again resurfaced, endangering gains in equal rights, and how powerful interests are again using the all-powerful gene fantasy to deconstruct the American Dream. Registration is required. A link to this online event will be emailed to you after registration is complete. This is a collaboration with the Northern Lancaster Hub. Funding has been provided by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020. Ages 18+.
