UW River Falls Sustainability Film Series: 2023-2024

UWRF Office of Sustainability  

The University of Wisconsin - River Falls Office of Sustainability presents the 2023-2024 Sustainability Film Cinema Series, a virtual film series from October 2023 to April 2024. All films will be available to stream from 7am CT on Friday of the screening window through 11:59pm CT on Thursday.

To watch the films: Go to the Film Screening Room and enter the video password provided by your host, UWRF Office of Sustainability.

In-person film discussions will be held for each screening on the following dates; all film discussions will begin at 6pm in Room 222 of North Hall, 410 S. 3rd St, River Falls, WI 54022.

Screening: October 6 - October 12, 2023
In-person discussion: October 11th, 2023

Buyer Be Fair looks at two major trade goods -- timber and coffee -- to find out how certification works and whether it helps the world's poor, and their lands. Can the lessons from certification of timber, by the Forest Stewardship Council, and coffee, by Fair Trade, be applied to other products?

Thirst For Justice
Screening: November 10 - November 16, 2023
In-person discussion: November 15th, 2023

Thirst for Justice follows Janene Yazzie, a Navajo mother of two, as she searches for the source of contamination in the school water supply in Sanders, AZ, on the Navajo Nation. When the epic movement for water justice ignites in Standing Rock, Janene is compelled to join. There she meets Flint water activist Nayyirah Shariff, and their struggles converge.

Screening: February 2 - February 8, 2024
In-person discussion: February 7th, 2024

Racing to Zero examines our society's garbage practices in terms of consumption, preparation, use and production, and discovers some amazing solutions in San Francisco, which is successfully taking the necessary steps to reach zero waste.

Screening: April 5 - April 11, 2024
In-person discussion: April 10th, 2024

A Working Group of international scientists is deciding whether to declare a new geological epoch - the Anthropocene - a planet shaped more by mankind than nature. Its members tell the story of the Anthropocene, supplemented by archival footage, award-winning stills and interviews.
